'A Stitch in Time'
Royal British Sculptors Society
2m x 30cm
London 2003

A specially knitted woolen scarf measuring 150 x 30cm was hung up high, below was placed it a 1rpm motor that pulled a strand of wool extremely slowly. The time based element was enhanced by the anticipation of the wait and the quick release of the knot. Gradually throughout the show, a ball of wool built up on the rotating arm as the scarf slowly disappeared into the same form that it was created. The scarf was made by my mother which adds a particularly personal, humourous element which most people read far too much into.
